Long-Term Returns Still Favourable for Super

What a difference four months makes. Mike Aked explains how the global pandemic changes our superannuation investments and how transitionals – Australians 10 years on either side of retirement – should react to the market's repricing.

Expected returns have changed. After the market’s adjustments, we expect both Australian and emerging market equities to earn 7% a year in real return (that’s in excess of inflation) over the remainder of the decade.  We expect European and Japanese equities to deliver a respectable annualized real return of 5.5% and 3.5%, respectively.  Research Affiliates’ long-term expected return forecasts are 1% to 3% a year higher than they were three months ago. That is the good news!
