John West

Partner, Head of Client Strategies & Marketing

John West is a member of the Research Affiliates board and is responsible for maximizing the investor impact of Research Affiliates’ insights and products. Since joining the firm in 2006, John has been actively involved in and led product management, affiliate support, and institutional relations as well as numerous client service initiatives. He is one of the principal external communicators of the firm’s asset allocation and smart beta strategies.

Previously, John was vice president of research and senior consultant at Wurts & Associates (now called Verus), a consulting firm on the West Coast for institutional investors. At Wurts, he managed the firm’s overall research effort, including the development of capital market assumptions, new asset class opinions, alternative investments, portfolio processes, and spending policies. As chairman of the Research Committee, he was also responsible for providing strategic guidance to the firm’s Manager Research Group. John also served as the practice leader in foundation and endowment consulting services.

John holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society Los Angeles. He is also a co-author of The Fundamental Index: A Better Way to Invest (Wiley 2008).

John graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in finance.​​​​​​
