Data Architect

This position is responsible for helping to ensure that the data assets and architecture of the firm enable it to achieve its strategic goals. The data assets include data generated internally, sourced from industry data vendors, and provided by partners through collaborative platforms. The architecture covers databases, data integration, and the means to get to the data.

Just as important as technical skills, the candidate should be able to establish context around the data and its uses. Comfort with market and analytical data is required. In addition, the role requires direct interaction with the research and development teams so strong communication and documentation is a must.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical resource in the planning, design, development, and support of data-driven systems
  • Participate in the design, evaluation, selection, implementation, and support of major databases and metadata structures
  • Review and evaluate database performance

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in applied technology in the finance Industry
  • Knowledge of finance industry data sets, standards, and architectures
  • Thorough knowledge of design and integration principles for complex, heterogeneous databases
  • Ability to effectively diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex problems pertaining to data infrastructure
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations regarding data integrity
  • Ability to develop methods of ensuring data incompatibilities among systems are systematically eliminated
  • Ability to project database resource requirements
  • Ability to maintain currency on tools, methodologies, and technologies
  • Ability to translate complex technical terminology, concepts, and issues in terms understandable to technical and non-technical management and resources staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills to resolve problems in a professional manner
  • Experience with
    • Microsoft SQL Server, or similar
    • Scripting language—Perl or similar
    • Statistical analysis tools—SAS, R, or similar
  • B.S. or higher in a related scientific or technical discipline

Associate Researcher: 1 Position Open

Responsibilities

  • Multivariate data analysis and linear regression analysis
  • Design of econometric models and investment strategies based on requirements provided by senior researchers or obtained from journal papers
  • Implementation of econometric models using SAS, R, Matlab, SQL, PERL and Python
  • Collecting and transforming large amounts of data from Bloomberg, Worldscope, Datastream, CRSP, Compustat, Factset, and WIND database
  • Back testing of investment strategies using a variety of programming languages and financial databases
  • Design and maintenance of Excel spreadsheets for performance attribution, portfolio accounting, dynamic hedging, and collateral tracking
  • Preparation and update of PowerPoint presentations on various financial topics such as market index research, fundamental indexation, risk factors in returns, and active signals in equity investment
  • Organization of research results into tables and summaries for decision makers

Education and Experience

  • Masters is Statistics or Applied Statistics, Finance, or equivalents
  • 6 months related experience
