KEITH AMBACHTSHEER
After
spending three years in the Canadian Forces, Keith became an investment
analyst with Sun Life Assurance Company, advanced as a partner and research
director at Canavest House, and became co-founder and partner of Pension
Finance Associates. He has operated his own firm, KPA Advisory Services
Ltd. since 1985. He provides strategic advice on governance, finance, and
investment matters to governments, industry associations, pension plan
sponsors, foundations, and other institutional investors around the world.
Keith played a major role in founding of the Rotman International
Centre for Pension Management (ICPM). He was recently appointed
the Director of ICPM and Adjunct Professor of Finance at
The Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He
is responsible for the management, administration, and external
representation of the Centre and also leads the charge for
shaping and executing the Center's research agenda.
In 2003, he was named One of the 30 Most Influential
People in the United States by Pension and Investments Magazine. His drive for research excellence has won him
several notable awards including four Graham and Dodd Awards and two Roger Murray Awards.
His articles appear regularly in the Financial Analysts
Journal, the Journal of Portfolio Management, and
other professional journals. Keith has authored two critically
acclaimed books: Pension Funds and the Bottom Line (Dow
Jones-Irwin 1986) and Pension Fund Excellence–Creating
Value for Stakeholders (with Don Ezra, John Wiley & Sons,
1998) that have both been translated into Japanese. Keith
issues The Ambachtsheer Letter on a monthly basis,
which is subscribed to by a global list of corporate, public
sector, investment, and consulting firm clients.
Keith's role in advancing research and providing strategic
advice on governance, finance, and investment around the
world is evidenced in his industry contributions. He lectures
on economics and investments at a number of universities,
and is the co-founder of Cost Effectiveness Measurement Inc.,
which monitors the organizational performance of 300 of the
developed world’s largest DB and DC pension funds.
Keith sits on a number of organizational boards and is the
past President of the Association of Canadian Pension Management
(ACPM).
Keith earned his undergraduate degree in Commerce and Economics
from the Royal Military College of Canada., M.A. in Economics
from University of Western Ontario, and completed coursework
for his Ph.D. in Economics at McGill University.
